IMPHAL, June 21: Continuing its efforts to promote public participation in protecting mountains, wetlands, and rivers, yoga and meditation programmes were organised on the occasion of the 12th International Day of Yoga under the banner “Ghat Par Yoga & Meditation” at different riverfronts along the Nambul River in and around Imphal on Sunday.

Carrying the message, “Clean Mind, Clean Water,” men and women dressed in white yoga attire participated in the events held from 6:30 am to 9:30 am at four different riverfront locations. The programmes were organised by four river protection bodies under the sponsorship of the Directorate of Environment & Climate Change, Government of Manipur, under the aegis of the National River Conservation Directorate, Ministry of Jal Shakti.
The first Ghat Par Yoga & Meditation programme was organised by Nambul Kanba Lup, Keishamthong Wards No. 11 and 12, at the riverfront of Keishamthong Elangbam Leikai. The second programme was organised by the Nambul River Development Organisation at Pishum Oinam Leikai.
The third Ghat Par Yoga & Meditation programme was held at the Naoremthong Khulem Leikai riverfront and was organised by the Lakhsh Pioneer Committee and Apunba Yaipha Nupishingee Lup. The fourth programme was organised by the Nambul River Protection Committee, Iroisemba, at Iroisemba Irong Laipham. All four locations are situated in Imphal West district.

Director Dr T. Brajakumar and Development Officer Alex Thounaojam of the Directorate of Environment & Climate Change, along with officials and members of the Media Resource Centre team of the Directorate, also participated in the Ghat Par Yoga & Meditation programme held at the Iroisemba Irong Laipham Community Hall.
