National Voters’ Day Celebrated at Pherzawl, Tamenglong

PHERZAWL: Pherzawl and Tamenglong districts joined the nation in observing the 16th National Voters’ Day on Sunday.

In Pherzawl, the day was observed at the DC Office Conference Hall with a focus on strengthening democratic participation, particularly among young and first-time voters, under the theme My India, My Vote.  

Pherzawl Deputy Commissioner Mannuamching formally distributed T-shirts and caps to newly enrolled voters, symbolising their official inclusion in the electoral process.

Addressing the gathering, the DC stressed the importance of voter enrolment and responsible participation, stating that every eligible citizen must exercise their right to vote honestly and conscientiously.

She also cautioned against impersonation and urged voters to uphold the integrity of elections by casting their votes personally and ethically.

The Deputy Commissioner further acknowledged the crucial role played by Booth Level Officers (BLOs) in ensuring free, fair, and inclusive electoral practices.

As part of the celebration, a Voters’ Pledge was administered during the event, with participants reaffirming their commitment to uphold democratic values and exercise their right to vote responsibly.

The programme was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner Joel G. Haokip, Election Officer S. Khamchinmang, along with other district officials and staff members, reflecting the administration’s collective effort to encourage informed and active participation in the democratic process.

In Tamenglong, the National Voters’ Day 2026 was held at SDO Office, Conference Hall.

Organized by the District Election officer, the programme was graced by Chunglenmang Additiional DEO/ADM Tamenglong as chief guest.

At the onset of the programme D Meidinbui, SDO Tamenglong welcomed the invitees, dignitaries and officials and shared the importance of National Voters’ Day.

Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest said the National Voters’ Day (NVD) is celebrated on January 25 in India to promote voter awareness and encourage participation in the electoral process.

The programme was attended by political leaders of the district, civil society leaders, differently-abled leaders and officials of the election department.

As a part of the celebration, participants were administered the NVD pledge. T-Shirts and caps were also to the Tamenglong Handicapped Association.

National Voters’ Day was first observed in 2011 to mark the foundation day of the Election Commission of India (ECI), which was established on January 25, 1950.

The main reason of NVD is to encourage young voters (18-19 years old) to participate in the electoral process, to promote voter awareness and education, to strengthen democracy by increasing voter turnout, to recognize the efforts of election officials and volunteers.
