UKHRUL: In a major push to improve road connectivity in Ukhrul town, the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) has invited bids for the one-time improvement of a 9-km stretch of the Ukhrul town road along National Highway 102A at an estimated cost of ₹40.55 crore.
The proposed road improvement will cover the stretch from near Dungrei Junction to Toloi Junction and will be executed using Thin White Topping Technology (TWT) during the 2026-27 financial year.

According to the NHIDCL, the project will be implemented under the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) mode through a two-bid system via e-tendering. The contract package is identified as NHIDCL/RO-Imphal/Ukhrul Town/0.00-9.00/2026-27.
The project carries a 12-month completion period, followed by a three-year maintenance period. Eligible and experienced firms and organisations can participate in the bidding process, subject to NHIDCL’s eligibility conditions, including not having been declared non-performing or blacklisted for the specified period.
The detailed tender documents are available on the NHIDCL website and the Government of India’s e-procurement portal from September 3 to September 23, 2026, up to 3 pm, the corporation said.

It may be mentioned that the Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari had earlier directed the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) to accord priority to NH-202 and NH-102A in the state.
According to sources close to Ukhrul MLA Ram Muivah, Gadkari had expressed concern over delays in the handing over of land to NHIDCL, particularly for the Ukhrul Bypass and the Shangshak-Tengnoupal sectors.
The Union minister had also taken note of the intervention of the High Court in connection with the Lower Hungpung-Choithar stretch of NH-202 and the Shangshak-Tengnoupal stretch of NH-102A, the sources said.

Muivah had raised these issues during his meeting with Gadkari, according to the sources.
The proposed ₹40.55-crore intervention in Ukhrul town is expected to provide a major facelift to the existing highway stretch and address long-standing concerns over the condition of one of the town’s key road corridors.
