Among the deceased were 63-year-old Laishram Barrel and 71-year-old Maibam Kesho, who lost their lives during the Jakuradhor attack; six family members, including three minors aged 8 years, 2 years, and 8 months, who were abducted and later found in the Barak River; and 20-year-old Khundrakpam Athouba, who was fatally shot during a protest.
The remains, previously kept at Silchar Medical College and Hospital in Assam, were claimed after the government assured actions such as handing over the case to the NIA, providing compensation and jobs to victims’ families, declaring the Hmar Village Volunteers as a terrorist group, and dismissing a senior police officer involved in Athouba’s case.
