No Poppy Cultivation at Thawai-Kuki Hill Range this year

Ukhrul: No poppy cultivation was found at Thawai-Kuki hill range this year. In the past year, around 120 acres area of poppy cultivation were destroyed at this particular hill range. However, this year, there is no report of poppy cultivation being carried out in the Thawai-Kuki hill range. The hill range look barren and abandoned.

A joint team of Ukhrul Police, Ukhrul Forest Department and 6th Manipur Rifles, Assam Rifles carried out poppy destruction drive at Leingangching hill range, and Mapithel hill range in Kamjong District under Litan Police Station on Monday and Tuesday.

Around 10 hectares of illicit poppy fields were destroyed at Leingangching hill range along with huts and amenities by the joint team of Police, Forest, AR and Manipur Rifles.

The joint team carrying out poppy destruction drives at Leingangching – Thawai Kuki hilll range enters its second day.

As per the drone video made available to this correspondent, the Thawai-Kuki hill range looks barren and abandoned.
