LONDON/UKHRUL, July 18: North East Indians in UK (NEIUK) has said more than 500 people attended the United Colours of North East India Festival 2026 in London on July 11, describing it as the first event of its kind in the city to bring together communities from all eight Northeastern states of India.
According to a press release NEIUK, the volunteer-led festival, held at the Indian Gymkhana Club, featured regional cuisine, folk music, cultural performances, handloom and handicrafts, and exhibitions showcasing the region’s diverse traditions. The event was supported by Pradyot Bikram Manikya Debbarma, head of Tripura’s erstwhile royal family.
The organisation said the festival aimed to promote greater awareness of Northeast India’s cultures among international audiences while providing a platform for members of the Northeastern diaspora in the United Kingdom to connect and strengthen community ties. It added that professionals, entrepreneurs, artists, students and families participated in the gathering.

NEIUK also highlighted the participation of second-generation members of the diaspora, saying the event gave many young people born or raised in the UK an opportunity to experience the traditions, music, crafts and cuisines of all eight Northeastern states in one venue.
The organisation described the festival as a milestone for the Northeast Indian community in the UK and expressed hope that similar initiatives would continue to promote the region’s cultural heritage internationally.
