UKHRUL: The Naga Students’ Union, Delhi (NSUD) has categorically rejected the recent statement issued by the Kuki-Zo Council (KZC) concerning the killing of six innocent Naga civilians who were allegedly taken hostage and killed by illegal Kuki armed terrorists. The Union asserted that the statement neither constitutes a genuine apology nor reflects a clear acceptance of responsibility for what it described as an “egregious and inhumane” act.

In a strongly worded statement, the NSUD said the KZC’s response appeared to be an attempt to rationalize and justify actions that are “wholly indefensible,” rather than acknowledge responsibility for the killings.

The Union also condemned what it described as derogatory remarks directed at the Naga community, particularly the use of the term “Katcha Nagas” by representatives of the KZC. According to the NSUD, such remarks disregard established historical scholarship and perpetuate narratives unsupported by credible historical evidence.

The statement further asserted that such comments undermine informed academic discourse while demeaning the distinct historical, cultural, and ethnic identity of the Naga people. It described the remarks as an unwarranted attack on the dignity, heritage, and identity of the Naga community.

Questioning the timing and intent behind the KZC’s statement, the NSUD maintained that an apology alone is insufficient to address the gravity of the incident. The Union stressed that genuine remorse must be accompanied by accountability, including the identification and prosecution of those responsible for the abduction and killing of the six civilians.

The NSUD called upon the KZC to cooperate fully with law enforcement agencies in identifying and apprehending those involved. It also sought clarification on whether the apology had been issued on behalf of the individuals directly implicated in the killings or whether the Council itself had any association with the alleged crime.

The Union further urged the government to act with urgency and responsibility, emphasizing that the rule of law must prevail without compromise. It reiterated that justice would only be achieved through the full implementation of the Charter of Demands submitted by the United Naga Council.

Expressing solidarity with the bereaved families and all those affected by the conflict, the NSUD commended the Naga community for its continued pursuit of truth, justice, and accountability. The Union concluded by reaffirming that lasting reconciliation can only be achieved through truth, respect for identity, accountability, and strict adherence to the rule of law.
