On Punjab church attack, Nagaland political party RPP writes to Punjab CM

Dimapur: The Rising People’s Party (RPP) has written to the chief minister of Punjab expressing concerns on the alleged vandalisation of a church in Punjab.

“It is most unfortunate that on the night of August 30 a church was vandalized and the pastor’s car set on fire in Tarn Taran district of Punjab by elements who are hell-bent on creating communal disharmony; mischievous elements who have no respect for the secular spirit of the country,” the Nagaland based political party said.

The Rising People’s Party said that it was grateful for the Punjab chief minister’s prompt condemnation and his swift assurance that nobody will be allowed to disturb the harmonious brotherhood of Punjab, “it is impossible to evade the conclusion that this mischievous act is a conspiracy to malign your popular government”.

Such a provocation, whether politically motivated or otherwise, is condemnable and it’s hoped that the AAP government will leave no stone unturned to arrest and expose the conspirators, the RPP added.

The Nagaland based political party then said, “At a crucial juncture when intolerance and Christian bashing have become the order of the day thanks to majoritarian politics, the RPP is hopeful that the AAP will continue to be in the forefront defending Christians and minorities in the country,” it also added.

“The AAP represents perhaps the idea of an India and the RPP wishes your party all the best in your future endeavor,” the letter also stated.
