UKHRUL/SENAPATI: A one-day ‘Genna’ called by the United Naga Council (UNC) is being strictly enforced across the Naga-inhabited hill districts of Manipur from 6 am on Friday, including at the district headquarters of Senapati, Ukhrul, Kamjong, Tamenglong, Noney and Chandel.
All vehicular movement, shops and business establishments, as well as government and private institutions remained closed in observance of the Genna. Emergency services and examinations were exempted from the shutdown.

Meanwhile, people in Senapati has received the mortal remains of four Naga civilians killed in Thursday brutal ambush by suspected armed Kuki groups at Makui Ashang in Kangpokpi district.
According to a source from the ground, the ambulance carrying the mortal remains was reportedly stopped at Waichong, a Kuki village, for reasons that were not immediately known. The ambulance was reportedly allowed to proceed at around 6:30 am under security escort.
The ambulance, accompanied by CRPF Casper vehicles, reached Thonglang Atongba, a Liangmai Naga village, at around 8:30 am. A short prayer was held there before the mortal remains were taken to Senapati District Hospital for post-mortem examination.
The UNC condemned the killings and demanded that the perpetrators be booked and brought to justice. It also called for the constitution of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the attack.

Separately, the Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) declared a 12-hour ‘genna’ from 6 am on Friday in view of the killing of four Liangmai Nagas at Makui Asang in Kangpokpi district on August 27. The TNL advised the public to stay at home and refrain from going to the fields and from other routine activities during the period.
