Ongoing Agitation by Senapati Frontal Orgs Temporarily Suspended; Restrictions on Commercial Vehicular Movement Lifted

Senapati, 15 Nov: Following the intervention of two local MLAs on behalf of the state government, the ongoing agitation by the Senapati District Frontal Organizations has been temporarily suspended, and restrictions on commercial vehicular movement have been lifted with immediate effect.

The meeting, which included MLA Losii Dikho and MLA Kumo Sha along with district civil society organization (CSO) leaders, lasted over two hours and culminated in the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

The MoU states: “Consequent to a meeting held on 15th November 2024 at the office of the Deputy Commissioner, Senapati, in the presence of L. Dikho, MLA, 48-Mao AC, J. Kumo Sha, MLA, 47-Karong AC, the Deputy Commissioner, and representatives of the Naga People’s Organisation (NPO), Senapati District Women Association (SDWA), and Senapati District Students’ Association (SDSA), an understanding was reached after thorough discussion regarding the charter of demands submitted on 11.11.2024 to the Chief Minister by the district frontal organizations.

The NPO, SDWA, and SDSA agreed to temporarily lift restrictions on commercial vehicular movement along NH-2 beyond the Senapati district headquarters, effective immediately, based on assurances provided by government representatives MLA L. Dikho and MLA J. Kumo Sha under the following conditions: (1) The government will ensure punitive action against the perpetrators as per the law and provide commensurate compensation to the victims. (2) Immediate measures will be taken to curb the collection of illegal taxes, extortion, and other disturbances along NH-2.

    However, the frontal organizations, including the NPO, SDWA, and SDSA, expressed dissatisfaction with the Arambai Tengol Unit 18 Notice (No. AT/U/18/2024/003, dated 14.11.2024).

    The NPO, SDWA, and SDSA reserve the right to resume restrictions on all commercial vehicular traffic movements beyond the Senapati district headquarters along NH-2 if the assurances provided during this meeting are not acted upon seriously.”

    The MoU was signed by the Deputy Commissioner of Senapati and the Presidents of the NPO, SDWA, and SDSA.
