Senapati: The 6th edition of the Presidential election of the Manipur Hills Journalists’ Union (MHJU) was held today at Press Club, Imphal.

Representatives from different hill districts of the state including Churachandpur, Tamenglong, Senapati and Ukhrul were present during the election process.

The election process chaired by Samuel Pao from Senapati district and Addie Chiphang from Ukhrul district as the Election Commission. Peter Adani, Editor, Hills Hornbill Express, Senapati was elected as the president, S. Nengkhanlun, Editor, Zogam Today, Churachandpur as the secretary general and Addie Chiphang, The Dawn Tantak, HungHao, Ukhrul as the vice president of the union.

The house also resolved to let the elected officials induct to the remaining posts of Asst. Secretary General, Information & Public Relations Secretary and Finance Secretary cum Treasurer in view of district wise representation to the union in near future.

Outgoing President, Ramkung Pamei, Editor, The Cham, Tamenglong in his farewell speech regretted for many things that he could not take up during his leadership as he had dreamt of and urged the incoming team to lift up the union in the interest of the people as assigned to. The outgoing President lauded the great efforts made by Churachandpur district in print, electronic and social media although the rest of the hill districts including Ukhrul, Senapati and Tamenglong are also gearing up to progress.

Incoming President of the union, Peter Adani, Editor, Hills Hornbill Express, Senapati lauded the former leaders of the union who had contributed as much as possible in different fields during their tenure. Peter Adani assured to uplift and encourage the MHJU as a platform to give opportunities to the people of the region especially to the hill people.

The newly elected President sought the cooperation of all where to function the organization solely lies in the hands of the members. He also seeks valuable suggestions, support and advice from senior leaders of the union to give the credit to the union.
