Imphal: A second powerful blast within 24 hours rocked the residence of an officer of the Manipur government on Friday morning. The bomb suspected to be IED went off at the front courtyard of the house of RK Virendra at Khurai Thoidingjam Leikai under Porompat police station of Imphal East district, around 4 am, police said.
Virendra is an Executive Engineer (EE) of the Agriculture department.
No human casualty was reported in the blast that damaged at least five vehicles parked nearby the blast site by the impact. The impact of the blast also shattered windows and doors of the house.
Footage of the CCTV installed in the area revealed the suspected IED was planted by some miscreants who came in a car.
As per the footages, one of the miscreants planted the bomb at the gate of the engineer. It went off after around five minutes after the miscreants left the spot.

Three of the five four-wheelers were severely damaged by the impact of the blast.
Soon after the blast, a team of Porompat police and forensic science rushed to the site and conducted a spot investigation.
Meanwhile, locals of Khurai staged a sit-in-protest to register a strong condemnation to the triggering of the bomb at the thickly populated area.
This is the second time in which suspected militants triggered suspected IEDs in the Imphal area in less than 24 hours.
It can be recalled that on Thursday morning, a powerful blast damaged the iron shutter of a shop that deals in vehicle spare parts and a four-wheeler parked nearby the site at Nagamapal under Imphal police station.
