TAMENGLONG: Rainforest Club Tamenglong on Tuesday conducted a conservation awareness programme at ITS, Chuiluan in Manipur’s Tamenglong district engaging students on the importance of protecting forests, rivers, and wildlife.
The programme, held under the theme “Conservation for a Sustainable Tomorrow”, kicked off with an interactive session by Mordecai Panmei, director of Rainforest Club Tamenglong.
Rainforest Club Tamenglong secretary Ramhiamang Gonmei opened the session with a short film on Amur Falcon conservation, showcasing how collective community efforts have helped protect one of the world’s most remarkable migratory birds.

During the programme, students got to learn about the crucial role rivers play in sustaining life and how healthy forests are essential for maintaining clean and perennial water sources.
The session also highlighted the growing threat of plastic pollution and its harmful effects on ecosystems, wildlife, and human health.
The discussion further addressed destructive practices such as hunting and the use of dynamite and electric batteries for fishing, emphasizing the need to conserve biodiversity and safeguard freshwater ecosystems for future generations.

The programme concluded with a pledge by the students to adopt the principles of Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle, minimize plastic waste on campus, and actively contribute to protecting the environment through responsible everyday actions.
Rainforest Club Tamenglong expressed its appreciation to the management, faculty, and students of ITS for their enthusiastic participation and support in making the programme a success.
