‘Red zone’ declared in Imphal for Modi’s visit on January 4

Imphal: Roads which Prime Minister Narendra Modi will travel during his visit in Manipur on January 4 and its surrounding areas have been declared as ‘red zone’.

The Prime Minister who is scheduled to arrive in Imphal on a brief visit to the state will inaugurate 13 projects worth around Rs 1850 crores and lay the foundation stone of nine projects worth around Rs 2950 crore at a function to be held at Hatta Kangjeibung in Imphal.

Amid the enhancement of security measures ahead of the VVIP’s visit, Imphal West district administration, in an order issued today, designated roads and surrounding areas from Bir Tikendrajit International Airport to Sanjenthong Bridge and roads leading to Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) as ‘red zone’ under section 19 of the Drone Rules, 2021.

The step has been taken up as a part of security measures to facilitate a smooth visit of the Prime Minister to the state, the order stated.

It added that use of any unmanned aircraft system operation (drones) including Nano, micro category will be prohibited from 8 am of January 4 onwards till the time of the departure of the Prime Minister from the state.

Another order of the Imphal West district magistrate also ordered all fuel pumps along the routes –Imphal airport to Sanjenthong Bridge – to remain closed from 8 am of the day onwards till the time of the departure of the Prime Minister.
