RPP Urges Nagaland Govt to Increase TA/DA for Jawans on Election Duty

Published on

Ukhrul: As the state marks 60 years of statehood with tributes to former parliamentarians, the Rising People’s Party (RPP) has issued a call for the Nagaland government to extend similar recognition and respect to state jawans who will soon be deployed for election duties in Jharkhand and Maharashtra in November 2024. In a press release, the RPP highlighted the need for increased Travel Allowance (TA) and Daily Allowance (DA) for jawans, especially after the hardships they endured during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

According to the RPP, jawans serving in extreme summer conditions across the country were paid a meager Rs. 550 in TA/DA, a sum they deem inadequate given the risks involved.

The party also noted that some jawans reportedly suffered heatstroke during this duty, with a few even losing their lives. Reflecting on this, the RPP urged the NDPP-BJP coalition government in Nagaland to avoid repeating these “dishonourable” oversights and instead address the “harsh realities” faced by jawans, especially their financial constraints while on duty outside the state.

The RPP proposed that the government should raise the TA/DA for jawans on outside assignments to at least Rs. 1,000 as a gesture of gratitude and support. Such an increase, they suggested, would reflect Nagaland’s maturity as a state and its recognition of the selfless service that jawans render for the state and the country.
