Saratlunminthang Touthan wins gold; Pettigrew college Ukhrul adjudged ‘Team Runner Up’ at Inter-College Championship

Ukhrul: The only government college in Ukhrul district, Pettigrew college Ukhrul has been adjudged “Team Runner Up” in the state inter-college best physique championship held on Thursday at Standard college, Kongba in Imphal. Gaikhunlung Ngaomei was the sports incharge of Pettigrew college.

Two of its student who are both players of Royal Gymnasium, Ukhrul, participated and competed in the event and secured bronze medals each. The duo, namely, Paotam Vashum and Wungreithei Lungharwo won bronze medals in 65 Kg and 70 Kg in open categories respectively.

Paotam hails from Razai village, while Wungreithei is from of Lunghar village in Ukhrul district.

On the other hand, Saratlunminthang Touthan, pursuing, BA 5th semester at Moreh college bagged gold medal in 80 Kg in open category and was adjudged “Champion of the Champion” for Inter-University Championship. Touthang is undergoing rigorous training at Royal Gymnasium, Ukhrul.

Speaking to the Ukhrul Times on Thursday, KAS Soreishang, the incumbent principal of Pettigrew college Ukhrul expressed immense joy on winning the medal.

“The college has achieved such achievement in the past and, I, on behalf of the college fraternity extend my sincere appreciation to Robert Meitei, trainer Royal Gymnasium Ukhrul for his dedication, commitment and passion to train, serve and improve the health of the community while working towards promoting them to higher level with bodybuilding as a professional career, ” Pettigrew college principal expressed.

KAS then extended his appreciation to two of his students who had achieved and brought laurels to the college through their hard work and determination.

Notably, the three athletes are trained under the guidance of Robert L Meitei at Royal Gymnasium, Ukhrul.
