SENAPATI, DEC 1: The proposed agitation “restricting driving permissions for Naga, Meitei Pangal, Nepali, and non-local drivers”, which was slated to begin from December 2, 2024, has been temporarily suspended. This decision was made following an appeal by the Senapati district administration, Manipur, today, the Grievances Cell of the Naga Peoples’ Organization (NPO) informed tonight.

A meeting was held today at the office chamber of the deputy commissioner, Senapati, attended by the representatives of the Grievances Cell of NPO, the Truck Owners Association and the Drivers’ Union, Senapati. During the meeting, the grievances of the drivers and the Truck Owners’ Association were thoroughly discussed and the district administration assured that sincere effort to promptly and effectively implement the condition outlined in the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed on November 15, 2024 will be taken up, the Grievances Cell of the NPO added.

Any inordinate delay on the part of the government to implement the condition of the above mentioned MoU shall compel the Grievances Cell of NPO to initiate a democratic agitation, it cautioned.
In light of this assurance, the Grievances Cell of the Naga Peoples’ Organization has decided to temporarily suspend the agitation.
