UKHRUL, NOV 13: The Shangkai Youth Club (SYC) has clarified that the scuffle involving a group of motorcyclists at Shangkai village on Wednesday night was not a communal incident but stemmed from reckless riding and disorderly behaviour.

In a statement issued on Thursday, SYC said the bikers entered the village around 7 pm and created disturbance despite prior warnings from well-wishers. During the commotion, an innocent passer-by was reportedly injured and taken to Saikul PHC, before being referred to Getwell Hospital in Senapati for further treatment.

Following the incident, some villagers confronted the bikers, which led to a brief physical clash. The matter was later settled through mutual understanding in the presence of the Officer-in-Charge of Litan Police Station the same night.

“The issue was in no way communal but arose purely from reckless and irresponsible behaviour that endangered the safety of villagers,” the club said.

The SYC appealed to all sections of the public not to communalise or politicise the incident and urged for calm and restraint. “Any further attempt to provoke or spread tension will be considered irresponsible,” it cautioned, adding that peace and mutual respect should prevail among all communities.
