Senapati: The United Naga Council (UNC) has urged the Naga public to exercise restraint from over indulging in the “electioneering activities” such as intimidation, threat and violence saying that “any Indian election should not deviate the Naga people from its visions of free Nagalim”.
In a statement made available to Newmai News Network today, the UNC stated that Indian election will come and go in every 5 years, be it Lok Sabha election, state assembly election, local bodies election or district council election, “as long as we are under the occupational forces of the Indian domination”. The Naga body also stated, “But our political movement will continue till the Indo-Naga political issue is concluded”.
The UNC then said that the “struggling native people” will continue to live on in their homeland and together “we will remain for the rest”. Therefore, the United Naga CounciI (UNC) through this press release appealed to the Naga public to exercise restraint from over indulging in the electioneering activities like assaulting, intimidation and threats to each other or to any individuals, groups or political parties.
The UNC also said that it is aware that unwanted incidences are propping up at different places like at Tobumai village on the night of February 18, 2022 of Senapati district and firing to the womenfolk who were engaging in a drive against drugs and other intoxicants by the state police commandos at Unapat village on February 19, and also at Tuishmi village on February 17 in Chandel district. The UNC stated that it “vehemently” condemned all forms of intimidation, firings, violence and bloodsheds in “Naga areas”.
The UNC also appealed to the Naga people in particular to be mindful of Indian elections but remain firm in supporting and upholding the “historic” indo-Naga Framework Agreement which was signed in 2015 “being our political goal and destination”. It added, “Any Indian election should not deviate the Naga people from its visions of free Nagalim”.
Further, the UNC also appealed to the Naga public not to believe unsubstantiated rumours circulated on some social media platforms and also be mindful of provocative utterances and activities that may cause disharmony among the people.
