IMPHAL, JULY 3: Even as the mortal remains of six Nagas continue to lie in the mortuary of Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) in Imphal since June 10, people continue to demand justice for the six Naga civilians.
On Friday, sit-in protests were held in various places demanding justice for the six Nagas. The sit-in protests were held at Koirengei, Luwangsangbam, Mantripukhri, Nilakuthi, and Laipham Khunou in Imphal East district. The protests were organised to condemn the abduction and brutal killing of six Naga civilians “by armed Kuki militants” and to demand immediate action from the government.

Large numbers of people, including women, youth, elders, and representatives of local clubs and civil society organisations, participated in the demonstrations, expressing solidarity with the bereaved families and reaffirming their commitment to the rule of law.
During the protests, demonstrators raised slogans calling for justice and accountability. They demanded the immediate arrest and prosecution of all perpetrators involved in the abduction and brutal killing of the six Naga civilians. The protesters also urged the government to declare the Kuki National Front (KNF-P) a terrorist organisation, remove Nemcha Kipgen from the office of Deputy Chief Minister of Manipur, and evict all illegal villages established in violation of the law.
The coordinated protests across multiple localities reflect the growing public concern over the delay in bringing the perpetrators to justice.

The protestors said the movement is committed to peaceful and democratic means and will continue until justice is delivered, accountability is ensured, and the rule of law is upheld. They demanded immediate arrest and prosecution of all perpetrators. The protestors also demanded abrogation of the Suspension of Operations (SoO) agreement with the Kuki militants and an end to what they called the proxy war. The protestors demanded that all illegal villages should be evicted immediately.
The protestors then reaffirmed that the campaign for justice will continue to expand across Manipur until the perpetrators are brought to justice and the legitimate demands of the people are addressed.
