Myanmar military aircraft skids off runway at Mizoram’s Lengpui airport

A Myanmar military aircraft in the process of taking back its soldiers on Tuesday skidded off the runway at Lengpui Airport in the Northeast State of Mizoram on Tuesday.

According to news reports, among the 14 persons onboard including the crew, 6 were reportedly injured. All injured have been admitted at Lengpui Hospital, according to sources.

The military airplane crashed after it overshot the Lengpui airport. The circumstances and the extent of damage to the aircraft have yet to be released. No casualty has been reported at the time of filing this report.

It is worth mentioning that a total of 276 Myanmarese soldiers had fled across the Indo-Myanmar border crossing over Mizoram’s Lawngtlai district with arms and ammunition on January 17, 2024 after their military post was overrun and captured, reportedly by the Arakan Army fighters.

According to news reports, the 276 Myanmarese soldiers entered Bandukbanga village, located at the India-Myanmar-Bangladesh trijunction which is the southern part of the Indian State in Mizoram.

A video of the Myanmarese soldier being monitored and received by Indian security forces went viral on January 17.
