The UNC leaders met the Governor and the officials on September 8 afternoon, hours before they imposed the “trade embargo in Naga areas” on the invitation of the latter.

The UNC leaders informed that the Governor led team “fervently requested” the Naga leaders to reconsider their decision to agitate, considering the planned visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Manipur on September 13. The Governor led team also told the UNC leaders about the importance of dialogue as much as the latter expressed that they, too, consider dialogue as the best means to resolve the issues. According to the UNC leaders, they had told the Governor led team that if dialogue is to be resumed, the fencing work along the border needs to be halted as long as the dialogue process prevails. “Now, to resume the dialogue or not to resume, the ball is in the court of the government”, a UNC leader confided.
