Ukhrul, May 8: A seven-member delegation from Tangkhul Naga Long, led by its President, Sword Vashum, called on the Governor of Manipur, Ajay Kumar Bhalla, today (08th May 2025) at Raj Bhavan, Imphal, at 11:00 am and submitted three separate memorandums containing certain issues and challenges faced by the tribals of Manipur, and the people of Ukhrul and Kamjong Districts in particular.

The TNL President explained in detail the grievances mentioned in the memorandums. The Governor, after listening patiently to the delegates, assured them that he would look into all matters and see what could be done. Some of the points mentioned in the memorandums are:

  1. Tribal Representation in the Legislature: The delegates emphasized the urgent need for enhanced tribal representation in the legislative assembly. This change is crucial to ensuring that the voices of tribal communities are adequately represented in governance and the decision-making process.
  2. Bifurcation of Budget Allocation: The team proposed that the state budget be bifurcated into two components to cater to the diverse community needs. This approach aims to facilitate targeted development and ensure that funds are utilized effectively to benefit all segments of the population.
  3. Construction of New Office Complex: A request was made for financial assistance, either in kind or cash, towards the construction of a new office complex and a multi-purpose convention hall for the Tangkhul Naga Long in Ukhrul. This facility will serve as a vital space for community gatherings, cultural events, and administrative functions.
  4. Administrative Solution for Government Departments: The delegates called for an immediate administrative solution to address the issues that have long plagued the operations of various government departments in the hill districts of Ukhrul and Kamjong. These reforms are necessary to streamline operations and improve service delivery to the public.
