Agartala: In the wake of Pakistan’s retaliatory drone and missile assault on multiple Indian defence installations following India’s Operation Sindoor, New Delhi has delivered a proportionate and precise military reply by striking radar systems inside Pakistan while reaffirming its stance against unnecessary escalation. The Ministry of Defence on Thursday described India’s counteraction as “focused, measured, and non-escalatory,” warning that any future attack on Indian military targets will draw a “suitable response.”

This statement comes after a dramatic escalation in cross-border hostilities. On May 7, India had launched Operation Sindoor, targeting nine locations within Pakistan linked to terrorist outfits believed responsible for the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 Indian tourists. India maintained that its strikes were aimed only at terror infrastructure and had deliberately avoided Pakistani military installations to prevent broader conflict.

In response to Operation Sindoor, Pakistan attempted to target Indian military bases through the night of May 7–8. Drone and missile attacks were launched at strategic sites across Jammu and Kashmir, and parts of Northern and Western India — including Awantipura, Srinagar, Jammu, Pathankot, Amritsar, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Adampur, Bhatinda, Chandigarh, Nal, Phalodi, Uttarlai, and Bhuj. All incoming threats were successfully intercepted and neutralised by India’s Integrated Counter UAS Grid and Air Defence systems.

Debris from the downed drones and missiles was recovered from multiple locations, providing definitive proof of the attempted strikes.

Early Thursday morning, the Indian Armed Forces responded by targeting Pakistani air defence radars and related military systems in a series of precise strikes. While the government did not specify all the sites targeted, it was confirmed that an air defence system near Lahore had been neutralised. The Ministry stressed that India’s response remained within the same military domain and intensity as Pakistan’s, keeping escalation in check.

Meanwhile, Pakistan escalated shelling along the Line of Control using mortars and heavy artillery in Kupwara, Baramulla, Uri, Poonch, Mendhar, and Rajouri sectors of Jammu and Kashmir. The unprovoked firing has claimed sixteen civilian lives, including three women and five children. India’s military responded with calibrated artillery fire to suppress the attacks and prevent further loss of life.

However, Indian Armed Forces reiterated their commitment to non-escalation, provided the same is respected by the Pakistani military. The government made it clear that India seeks to avoid war but will not hesitate to protect its citizens and military assets from aggression.
