Ukhrul, Oct 13: As the much-anticipated homecoming of Ato Kilonser (Prime Minister) Thuingaleng Muivah, draws near, the Tangkhul Naga community is preparing to welcome him with deep reverence, heartfelt prayers, and traditional celebrations. Under the leadership of various apex Tangkhul bodies, preparations are in full swing in Ukhrul and Somdal, the native village of the Naga leader.
Thuingaleng Muivah, affectionately and respectfully known as Avakharar among the Tangkhul Nagas, is returning to his birthplace after decades of unwavering service to the Naga political movement. His return marks a historic and emotional moment for the Tangkhul people and the wider Naga community.

Speaking on the significance of the event, Sword Vashum, President of the Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL), said: “The preparation for the return of Ato Kilonser is for all of us. As he prepares to return to his birthplace, Somdal, we pray for his safe arrival. May his body, mind, and soul be sound, and may he come home with peace and joy as he reunites with his family, friends, and the people. We are anticipating a truly blessed time.”
Kashung Tennyson, President of the Tangkhul Naga Awungashi Long (Headmen’s Council), expressed joy and gratitude on behalf of the Tangkhul village headmen: “I, along with all the Tangkhul headmen, am overjoyed that Ato Kilonser, Prime Minister of the Naga Nation, Thuingaleng Muivah, is coming home. We are constantly praying for his safe and sound return and for the success of the homecoming programme. Our respected leader has devoted his life so that the Nagas may live with liberty, honour, and dignity. This homecoming is our opportunity to express our gratitude, love, and respect in the best way possible.”

Thingreiphy Lungharwo, President of the Tangkhul Shanao Long (Women’s Union), highlighted the active participation of Tangkhul women: “Women from all villages and units are eagerly awaiting Ato Kilonser’s return. We are preparing to express our heartfelt thanks and respect for his many years of service. We are also preparing his favourite traditional Tangkhul dishes to make him feel truly at home.”
Echoing the sentiments of the younger generation, Ringphapam Kasar, President of the Tangkhul Mayar Ngala Long (Youth Council), said: “Avakharar has not only given his time but his entire life and soul for the Naga Nation. We are preparing to give him a grand and honourable homecoming. I appeal to the entire Tangkhul community to unite and give him a warm welcome. After nearly 50 years, he is returning home — this is a historic moment and we must honour it with gratitude.”

Churches across the Tangkhul region have also joined in with continuous prayers for the safe return of the Naga leader. The community firmly believes that this homecoming will be a momentous chapter in the collective history of the Naga people.
