Tension runs high in IT Road after Assam Rifles allegedly kills a villager

Alleged killing of a man by some personnel of Assam Rifles triggered a protest in IT Road under Kangpokpi district where villagers stormed an outpost of the Assam Rifles on Friday night.

The angry villagers have allegedly set afire two vehicles of the paramilitary force, according to reports reaching here. Two rifles of the security force were also reportedly damaged by the fire. The villagers accused the 44 Assam Rifles at Gelnel village (Banglabung) outpost for committing the atrocity.

The deceased man was identified as Mangboilal Lhouvum (38) of Chalwa village. He reportedly succumbed to bullet injuries on the way to a nearby healthcare facility where some villagers rushed to.

It was not certain till the filing of this report regarding the genesis of the incident. 
Reports said that the irate villagers reacted to the alleged killing by torching a Gypsy (vehicle) and one 407 Tata truck. 

Leaders of the civil society organisations based in the district rushed to the spot and took stock of the situation on Saturday morning where tension was still running high.

Meanwhile, the dead body has been transferred to RIMS morgue in Imphal for necessary post mortem and other legal procedures.
