Three alleged drug peddlers arrested with 9 kg of WT tablets, including a former JD(U) candidate

Imphal: Three alleged drug peddlers were arrested with the seizure of nine kg of WY tablets worth over Rs. 4 crore in the international market, police said on Tuesday.

A team of Imphal West district police commandos arrested the three alleged drug paddlers during an operation based on specific information at Meitei Lamkhai under Singjamei police station yesterday (Monday) evening. Addressing a press conference today, Imphal West superintendent of police, Ksh Shivakanta said that acting on the specific information, a team of police commandos conducted a frisking and checking along Imphal-Moreh section of NH-102 at Meitei Lamkhai area.

The team intercepted the contraband drugs when they conducted a thorough checking of a car (i20 brand). They detained the driver identified as L Ratan of Nongdam in Imphal East district and interrogated, the police officer said.

From the statement of the driver, the police commandos came to know that the contraband drugs belonged to a former Janata Dal (United) candidate who contested in the 12th Manipur assembly polls, K Jadumani Singh of Charangpat in Thoubal district, presently residing at Wangkhei in Imphal East.

In the follow up action, the same police commando team nabbed Jadumani along with one of his associates from Assam, identified as Manju Miha from a place near Sapermaina police station of Kangpokpi district. They were traveling in a car.

The police commandos recovered a cash amount of Rs 1.45 lakh, six mobile phones and identity cards from the possessions of the two alleged drug paddlers, the police officer also said.

He alleged that the arrested persons members of a inter-state drug syndicate Police commandos in Kakching district also arrested an alleged drug peddler after a hot pursuit today. The arrested drug peddler was identified as Boipu Haokip (31) of Tengnoupal district.

Police said that the police commandos on frisking and checking at an inter-village road at Laimanai Chingjin, based on specific information, signaled to stop a Gypsy without registration number coming from Pallel toward Kakching side.

The vehicle, however, didn’t halt but sped in a bid to escape.  Tactically, the police commando team managed to stop the vehicle at Nungourok village.

Once again the driver escaped from the spot leaving behind the vehicle. The police commandos nabbed him after a hot pursuit, the police further said.

Upon checking the vehicle, the commando personnel found 692 gram of heroin powder, the police added.
