Three days after 9 valley MLAs were inducted into the Hill Areas Committee Manipur on September 1, three Congress MLAs have resigned from Committee membership. The Congress party has demanded revocation of the order.

Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) interim President cum Nambol MLA N Loken, Thangmeiband MLA Kh Joykishan and Wangkhem MLA K Meghachandra submitted their resignation letters today.

The order on induction of the 9 MLAs was issued from Secretariat of Manipur Legislative Assembly into the HAC in order to increase the strength of the committee from 20 to 29.

The three Congress MLAs reportedly resigned from their memberships after a thorough discussion with the Congress party central high command and in the interest of the public.

Leader of Congress Legislature Party Okram Ibobi while speaking to media at Congress Bhavan in Imphal Saturday clarified the party had earlier allowed the three Congress MLAs to join the Hill Areas Committee Manipur in the interest of the Tribal Communities residing in the respective valley constituencies of these MLAs.

Okram Ibobi further clarified that the three Congress MLAs joining HAC was never an attempt to take political mileage.

Meanwhile, the All Tribal Students Union Manipur (ATSUM) has given a deadline of 72-hours to HAC Manipur Chairman to announce his stated position with regards to the induction of the 9 valley MLAs.
