Three-Member Manipur violence Inquiry Committee visits Kangpokpi and Churachandpur

Kangpokpi: The Supreme Court appointed three-member committee, headed by former Jammu and Kashmir High Court Chief Justice Gita Mittal, former Bombay High Court Judge Shalini Phansalkar Joshi and former Delhi High Court Judge Asha Menon visited Kangpokpi district today, joined by Chief Secretary Vineet Joshi, according to official press release.

The three-member committee who have been directed by the SC to oversee relief, rehabilitation and rebuilding measures in Manipur, were welcomed by the officials of Kangpokpi District Administration led by Deputy Commissioner Mahesh Chaudhari, IAS, at the DC Office Complex, and also met with the District Level Officers in the conference hall and had a thorough discussion on the prevailing situation, other requirements and issues faced in the district, the press release said.

The three-member inquiry committee visited two relief centres, namely, Keithelmanbi High School and DIET Centre, Leikop under Champhai Sub-Division and interacted with the people taking shelters in these centres, accompanied by the District officials. More than 500 inmates each are accommodated in these two centres. The team also inspected the under-constructed fabricated houses at Keithelmanbi, more than 150 houses are planned to be constructed. The committee members also distributed relief items to the inmates at the relief centres, the press release added.

Meanwhile, the inquiry team also visited Churachandpur today along with Chief Secretary and the District officials. The team held meeting with CSO leaders at the DC’s Conference Hall, Mini-Secretariat, Tuibong. Later the team visited Relief Centre at ECA Church campus, Tuibong, said officials.
