Agartala, Aug 19: The per capita income of Tripura residents is projected to rise sharply from Rs 1.72 lakh in 2023-24 to nearly Rs 1.93 lakh in 2024-25, reflecting the broader gains of the state’s expanding economy. Official advance estimates show that the state has maintained strong growth momentum, with both Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) and Net State Domestic Product (NSDP) recording double-digit expansion.

Tripura’s GSDP at current prices has climbed from Rs 79,434 crore in 2023-24 to Rs 89,682 crore in 2024-25, registering a growth rate of 12.9 per cent. At constant 2011-12 prices, the GSDP rose from Rs 46,225 crore to Rs 50,262 crore, marking an 8.7 per cent real growth rate. The NSDP has also witnessed robust gains, increasing from Rs 71,763 crore in 2023-24 to Rs 81,051 crore in 2024-25.

The sectoral composition of the economy highlights the state’s continued dependence on agriculture and allied activities. The primary sector now accounts for 48.1 per cent of the GSDP in 2024-25, compared to 48.2 per cent in the previous year. The tertiary or services sector contributes 42.9 per cent, while the secondary sector’s share has slipped further to 9 per cent, reflecting weaker growth in manufacturing and industrial activities.

What stands out in the current estimates is the stability of Tripura’s growth trajectory. The 12.9 per cent rise in 2024-25 is marginally higher than the 12.5 per cent recorded in 2023-24, underscoring the state’s ability to sustain momentum after the pandemic years. The constant price growth figure of 8.7 per cent also indicates that the expansion is not merely inflation-driven but reflects a real increase in economic output.

The sharp rise in per capita income is the most significant outcome of this growth. From Rs 1.72 lakh in 2023-24, individual earnings are expected to increase to Rs 1.93 lakh in 2024-25, indicating a substantial improvement in average living standards. Economists point out that this consistent rise in income levels demonstrates how the state’s economic expansion is translating into tangible benefits for its people.

In summary, Tripura’s economy continues to expand steadily, with agriculture leading the way and services providing a robust foundation. As per capita income edges closer to the Rs 2 lakh mark, the 2024-25 advance estimates highlight a state economy that is not only growing in numbers but also lifting the living standards of its population.
