Two alleged poppy cultivators arrested in Kangpokpi

Kangpokpi: Manipur police on Monday arrested two alleged poppy planters during a poppy destruction drive at the hill range under Sagolmang police station of Kangpokpi district bordering Imphal East district.

The arrested alleged poppy planters were identified as Seiboigin Baite and Soginlun Baite, police said.  

They were arrested during a poppy destruction drive carried out in the hill range  by a combined team of Imphal East district police, NAB, forest department officials, 4th Assam Rifles.

The executive magistrate of Saikul sub-division of Kangpokpi district also participated in the drive, conducting a poppy drive in which poppy plants on over 22 acres of fields were destroyed.

In Tengnoupal district, too, over 75 acres of poppy fields were destroyed by a combined team of Tengnoupal district police, NAB and Forest department under the supervision of SP of the district.

The combined team destroyed illegal poppy plantations at around 55 acres at the hill range of SL Zougam village and 20 acres at Khudei Khullen village.

Police said that poppy plants on a total of 97 acres of fields at hill districts were destroyed today.
