Manipur police Tuesday arrested two men suspects, allegedly involved in the gruesome murder of Athuan Abonmai, former president of the Zeliangrong Baudi (Assam, Manipur, Nagaland).
According to news report in Impact News, the two arrested persons are identified as a 47-year-old, Ponthalung Panmei, Son of Langai Panmei from Konthoujam Maning Tribal Colony, and 48-year-old, Lanchapou Bosco Gonmei, Son of late Gaikhangsingpou from Langol Laimanai.
Both the accused, according to the news report were produced before Chief Judicial Magistrate Imphal West as the Chief Judicial Magistrate Tamenglong is on leave. They were brought to Imphal West under tight security on Tuesday. The Court remanded Ponthalung Panmei and Lanchapou Bosco Gonmei for 9 days of police custody for further interrogation.
The two were produced before the In-charge CJM Imphal West Judge Y. Somorjit.
Seized items Hammer, spade and other incriminating items allegedly used to kill Athuan Abonmai were also produced before the Judge, Impact News said.
A report of abduction and kidnapping of Athuan Abonmai was filed by his son, 28-year-old Arai Abonmai at Lamphel Police Station on September 20 morning. The report filed by Arai Abonmai at Lamphel PS said that his father was kidnapped and abducted at around 11:30 am allegedly by NSCN-IM cadres from Tamenglong headquarters.
Manipur chief minister, N Biren on September 24 called the kidnapping and subsequent murder of Athuan Abonmai by unidentified suspects a cowardly act.
It may be mentioned that Manipur government on September 26 transferred Amstrong Pame, IAS Deputy Commissioner Tamenglong and was given Special Secretary (RD&PR/Power) & SMD/MSRLM in addition. Similarly, Tamenglong SP, Mohurle Sandeep Gopaldas, IPS who was transferred as SP CID Technical. Ms. Anupam, IPS was appointed as Tamenglong SP.
