Two-Day International Conference Concludes at Don Bosco College, Maram

Senapati, August 22: The two-day International Conference on Literature, Language, Culture and Teaching Skills, organised by the PG and UG Department of English at Don Bosco College, Autonomous Maram, concluded today. The conference was held on August 21 and 22 under the guidance of Dr. Widinibou, the convenor.

The inaugural ceremony featured Awangbou, former Minister for Water Resources and Relief & Disaster Management, Government of Manipur, as the chief guest. The event began with an invocation prayer led by Rev. Fr. Palatty Devasty SDB, rector of the college. Students of BA 3rd semester from the Department of English performed a welcome song, adding a meaningful touch to the programme.

Rev. Fr. (Dr.) K.O. Sebastian, Principal of the College, delivered a special address and introduced the chief guest along with the keynote speakers: Prof. Athungo from Nagaland University, Prof. Linda Konnarth from the University of Bern, Switzerland, and Christian Aung, Technology Officer at the United Board for Christian Higher Education in Asia. Assistant professors and professors from various colleges and universities also attended the programme.

A cultural performance by the 7th semester students of the English Department further enhanced the inaugural session. Addressing the gathering, chief guest Awangbou expressed his affection for the students, referring to them as friends, which reflected the spirit of Don Bosco College.

Prof. Athungo Ovung delivered a keynote speech on the theme “A Sociological Approach to Literature, Language, Culture and Teaching Skills: An Insight from Northeast India.” Prof. Linda Konnarth from the Institute of Linguistics at the University of Bern and Christian Aung also presented their keynote speeches online.

More than 50 scholars and professors from around the world submitted research papers, contributing to the academic discourse of the conference. The discussions, presentations and interactions were described as enriching and fruitful.

The conference concluded with a valedictory programme, attended by Rev. Fr. Dr. K.O. Sebastian, Principal of Don Bosco College (Autonomous) Maram. Dr. Pukekho Lokho, co-convenor of the conference, delivered the valedictory address, while certificates were distributed by the principal, marking the successful conclusion of the two-day event.
