Imphal: After the recent arrest of 7 cadres of UKLF, two cadres of Kuki National Army were arrested by security forces on Wednesday afternoon during joint operations carried out in the Indo-Myanmar border town of Moreh. Combined teams of state and central forces have been carrying out intense search operations in Moreh to locate the perpetrators involved in the killing of Moreh SDPO Chingtham Anandkumar, who was shot dead by suspected Kuki militants on October 31.

According to police, the arrested persons are Seikholun Vaiphei (35), son of Thangpao Vaiphei of Zion Veng, Tuinom Part-4, Moreh. He has reportedly revealed himself as an active Lance Corporal of KNA posted at Moreh under one self-styled Lieutenant Lunmang Haokip alias Mamang. He joined the KNA in October 2004 under army number 1483 of 22nd batch trained at Minou, Moreh near Assam Rifles camp and the other arrested person is Luphou Otminlal Hangmi (19), son of Letngam Luphou Hangmi from Yangoupokpi Village, Moreh.

A joint team of Special Commando, Moreh Commando, Thoubal Commando, Kakching Commando, 5th IRB, 5th Assam Rifles, 181 BSF, 156 BSF and 192 BSF stationed at Moreh launched search operations at J.H.Vajang village, Haolemkhopi village, S.T. Moullenphai village and Yangoupokpi village around 1pm. Around 3pm, as the team started searching the hill terrain and river bank at Yangoupokpi village, found the two persons in a suspicious manner and arrested them.

One Aadhar card, driving licence, PMJAY card, one Realme hand set with one Airtel and one Myanmar sim card and one Jupiter scooter without registration number were recovered from Seikholun Vaiphei’s possession. While, One One-Plus Android mobile hand set with Airtel sim card and Myanmar sim card were recovered from Lupho Otminlal Hangmi. They have been handed over to Moreh Police Station along with the seized items for further legal actions.
