Two more die due to COVID-19 related illnesses in Meghalaya

Meghalaya on Wednesday recorded two more deaths due to COVID-19 related illness, taking the toll in the state to 70 even as 153 new cases were detected pushing the count to 2,339.  

Director of Health Services (MI), Dr Aman War informed that the new cases include 104 from East Khasi Hills district, 25 West Garo Hills district, 11 Ri Bhoi district, 6 East Garo Hills district, 2 North Garo Hills district and one each in East Jaintia Hills district, South Garo Hills district, South West Garo Hills district, South West Khasi Hills district and West Khasi Hills district.

Out of the 176 recovered COVID-19 patients, Dr War said, 139 are from East Khasi Hills, 20 West Garo Hills, 5 Ri Bhoi, 5 West Jaintia Hills, 3 East Jaintia Hills, 3 South West Khasi Hills and 1 South Garo Hills.

He said 5,582 COVID-19 cases have been discharged as on date.

The state has detected a total of 7,991 COVID-19 out of which 2,339 are active cases, 5,582 recovered and 70 deaths.

East Khasi Hills district tops the list of districts in positive cases with 1,609 infections, that include 36 Armed Forces and Paramilitary Forces and 1,573 civilians, followed by Ri Bhoi 333 and West Garo Hills 174.

In the other districts, 75 cases in West Jaintia Hills, 37 in South Garo Hills, 24 in North Garo Hills, 24 in East Garo Hills, 23 in South West Garo Hills, 23 in South West Khasi Hills, 10 in East Jaintia Hills and 7 in West Khasi Hills.

“Till date, swab samples of 1,78, 894 persons have been tested of which 1,70,903 were found negative,” the senior medical official said.

There are 48,086 entrants from outside the state.
