TYCM Calls Public Meeting on ‘Critical’ Tribal Issues on 1st Feb

Ukhrul, Jan 27: In response to the Government of Manipur’s continued inaction regarding critical tribal issues, the Executive Council of the Tribal Youth Council Manipur (TYCM) has called for a public meeting involving all leaders of youth clubs, civil society organizations, intellectuals, former Autonomous District Council (ADC) members and social workers from tribal communities. The meeting is scheduled for February 1, 2025, at 11 AM, at the Tarung Community Hall.

The TYCM stated that the meeting is called to hear the voices of the tribal community on several important issues in the state. These issues include the non-conduct of Autonomous District Councils (ADCs) elections, the lack of recruitment for vacant positions in the Directorate of Tribal Affairs & Hills Department, the Tribal Research Institute (TRI), the Manipur State Commission for Scheduled Tribes (MSCST), and the Manipur Tribal Development Corporation Ltd. (MTDC). Additionally, the topics will cover the non-regularization of nine contractual staff at the MSCST and the nomination of two MSCST members on December 26, 2024, without any public advertisement or invitation for applications, along with other tribal concerns.

The TYCM-GHQ has urged leaders of youth clubs, civil society organizations (CSOs), intellectuals, social workers from tribal communities, and former ADC members to participate in this “important” meeting.

The council emphasizes that the presence, valuable suggestions, and support of attendees will be crucial in shaping the collective efforts to uphold the rights and development of tribal communities in Manipur. Let us unite in solidarity for the advancement of our tribal society, the tribal body added.
