Ukhrul, July 4: A concerned local resident took to his phone camera to document the deteriorating condition of roads in Ukhrul town, particularly in the main bazaar area. Comparing the state of the roads to a buffalo and pig farm, he captured the daily struggles faced by the public amid poor traffic discipline.
The video captures the difficulties endured by all sections of the community, including children and the elderly, who must navigate these roads to reach school, work, and other essential places.

Questioning the lack of action, he asked whether the responsibility lies with the district representatives, the inaction of civil society organisations (CSOs), or the indifference of the State government.
With no proper footpaths and roads riddled with potholes, Ukhrul town presents daily risks for both drivers and pedestrians. The lack of blacktopping for many years has become an increasing concern for the public. Yet, for many residents, the issue has faded into the background, a harsh reality they’ve grown used to, season after season.
The town’s main road stretch, spanning roughly 10 kilometers, sees vehicles constantly swerving to avoid road hazards. This not only slows down traffic but also leads to frequent jams and chaos, especially in the already congested market area.
