Union Minister Giriraj Singh Inaugurates NIFT Shillong Campus

Shillong: Union Minister of Textiles Giriraj Singh inaugurated the new permanent campus of the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) in Shillong today, also attending the 12th convocation ceremony for the 2024 graduating class.

Highlighting Northeast India’s contribution to the ₹45,000 crore handloom and textile export sector, Singh stressed the region’s importance in India’s textile industry.

Singh underscored the need for innovation, technology integration, and AI in design, aiming to empower students to safeguard and promote their creative work.

He also praised VisionNxt, NIFT’s indigenous trend forecasting initiative, and announced plans to establish NIFT campuses globally to strengthen India’s “Bharat” brand in sustainable fashion.
