Ho Chi Minh: Union Minister of State for External Affairs Dr Rajkumar Ranjan has urged airlines from Vietnam to explore launching direct flights to cities in India’s north-eastern states to increase investment and tourism opportunities for both countries.
Addressing a session on investment and trade at the 3rd Edition of North East India Festival (NEIF) in Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam on Saturday, Dr RK Ranjan said Guwahati, considered the Gateway to Southeast Asia, has an international airport with direct flights connecting Bangkok and Singapore. He said, “All eight North East states are well connected by air, land and rail to other parts of India. I invite airlines from Vietnam to explore the possibilities of connecting NE states with cities by air,” quoted PTI.

The three-day festival promoting India’s Act East Policy began on Friday with stakeholders from India and Vietnam discussing bilateral trade and tourism. Consul General of India in Vietnam Madan Mohan Sethi hosted the inaugural session of the festival.
Speaking at the inaugural session, Minister Rk Ranjan said prime minister Narendra Modi’s vision is to link all the states of North East India with South East Asia and the Act East Policy is the main point of the bilateral relationship with these key countries. He said India’s foreign policy under prime minister Modi is focused on bringing the whole world under one family and stressed that the G20 motto has been one earth-one family and one future which is the philosophy and wisdom of India as a nation.
