Ukhrul/Kohima: Manipur has emerged as the Champion of the North East Games 2024 in the 3rd Edition held in Nagaland, achieving the highest medal tally with an outstanding performance across various sporting disciplines. Manipur solidified its position as the powerhouse of the 8 sisters states of Northeast India sports with an unprecedented success, securing a total of 130 medals, including 52 Gold, 38 Silver, and 40 Bronze.

The Manipur contingent clinched the championship after dominating in multiple sports disciplines, marking a pinnacle of athletic achievement and highlighting the essence of perseverance, passion, and the human spirit. With an exceptional performance across diverse sporting disciplines, Manipur has broken records and surpassed expectations, despite the ongoing challenges the state finds itself.
The host state, Nagaland, showcased spectacular performances throughout the games, claiming the second position in the medal tally with a total of 134 medals, comprising 48 Gold, 42 Silver, and 44 Bronze medals.
Securing the third position, Assam amassed a total of 139 medals, including 43 Gold, 44 Silver, and 52 Bronze medals. Assam was also honored with a special recognition award for individuals and states for their exceptional performance in athletics disciplines.

The Fair Play Trophy was awarded to Sikkim for demonstrating exemplary sportsmanship and conduct throughout the games, while Tripura bagged the Spirit of Olympic Trophy for embodying the values of sportsmanship, unity, and excellence.
Venuzo Dawhuo from Nagaland was recognized with the Outstanding Sportsman Award for his remarkable achievements, making history by winning gold medals in two different sports disciplines: shot put, discus throw in athletics, and belt wrestling in the 100+ category.
On the other hand, Tsuchoi T of Nagaland received the Outstanding Sportswoman Award, showcasing the transformative power of sports for women by securing four gold medals in athletics, including the 5000 meters, mixed rally, and women’s cross-country team events. Additionally, Tsuchoi T also won two silver medals in the women’s cross-country and 4×4 100 rally events.
