UTBC donates Rs 50,000 to Ukhrul district hospital; SBI Ukhrul branch staff tested Covid positive

In a bid to contribute its share in the pandemic, a leading Ukhrul town based church – Ukhrul Town Baptist Church (UTBC), Phungreitang led by pastor Somi Kashomwoshi and its members including youth pastor, children pastor, women chairperson and treasurer donated a cheque amounting Rs 50,000 ( Fifty thousand ) to District Hospital, Ukhrul for purchase of necessary equipments, materials and items which will be needed in the war against COVID-19 pandemic.

Meanwhile, a lady employee of SBI Ukhrul branch who has been identified as Olympia has been infected with Covid disease. It was reported that she came and withdrawn her money and had left for her husband testing. The employee along with five of her family members had been tested positive.

She reported for bank duty on Friday and was found to be infected on contact tracing test. Those who had came into contact with her need to be isolated and get tested, said district surveillance officer Ukhrul.

As a precautionary and preventive measures, Additional deputy commissioner Ukhrul said that State Bank of India (SBI) Ukhrul will be closed as part of precautionary and preventive measures.

Sensing the need to ensure stringent measures to check physical contact among people and to flatten the increasing Covid-19 surge in the state, the Home department had ordered for extension of public curfew in the seven districts of the state including Ukhrul district.

On the other hand, the district magistrate Ukhrul as directed by the state home department on Monday had extended the curfew till 28 May. The earlier order was to end on May 17. However, as COVID-19 infection continue to surge in the state and sensing the impending threats posed by the virus, the state government had extended the curfew

DM Ukhrul, Joseph Kamson in exercise of the power conferred upon him under sub-section 2 of section 144 of the code of criminal procedure (Cr.PC) 1973 had prohibited movement of any person outside their respective residence with effect from May 18 till 28 May.

The whole area situated within the revenue district of Ukhrul district has come under the purview of the curfew, the order further directed sub-divisional magistrates (SDMS) as incident commandant along with district police officer to ensure strict compliance of the orders.
