Will continue to press for repeal of AFSPA says N Biren

Imphal: Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh said today that the state government has been pressing the Central government to repeal the Armed Forces Special Powers (AFSPA) Act 1958. “We will continue to demand the same”, he added.

N Biren also said that the state government strongly condemned the gunning down of civilians in Nagaland’s Mon district by the security forces.

Biren Singh said this while talking to reporters on the sidelines of a BJP hosted function at JN Dance Academy in Imphal.

The chief minister then said that the Manipur government has been demanding for the scrapping of AFSPA since long and will continue to press the Centre to repeal the Act.

The chief minister attended a function hosted by BJP Manipur Pradesh under the theme “Launching of involvement of public aspirations in party manifesto”.

The function was also attended by party state unit president A Sarda Devi and BJP Manipur in-charge Samit Patra and some ministers and MLAs of the ruling party among others.
