Imphal, June 6: A women-based organisation on Thursday expressed disappointment when no concrete actions to end the crisis in Manipur were seen taken up on the part of the state and central governments to date.

Addressing a press conference at Manipur Press Club, Imphal, in the presence of representatives of Delhi Meitei Coordinating Committee (DMCC), convener of Imagi Meira, Kh Sujata said that despite repeated pleas, the crisis unfolding in the state is yet to be resolved.

She alleged that despite the persistent pressures from various circles, no action has been initiated against the 10 Kuki MLAs who raised the demand for separate administration for the community.

The MLAs are also continuing to exert pressure to address their demand, she alleged and questioned whether the 10 Kuki MLAs are more powerful than the other 50 MLAs.

“Why the 50 MLAs remain silent till date? What are they doing at the moment?” she asked.

Sujata said that Imagi Meira has been pressing the state government and the Speaker of the Manipur Legislative Assembly to take up befitting action against the 10 Kuki MLAs as the demand raised by them is akin to the disintegration of Manipur which is against the oath they had taken after they were elected as members of the Manipur Legislative Assembly.

She said that Imagi Meira along with representatives of the DMCC had also submitted a memorandum to the prime minister demanding urgent measures to bring normalcy and ensure peaceful co-existence among communities in the state.

In the memorandum which similar copies were forwarded to the Union Home minister and the Defense minister, Imagi Meira had also sought for implementation of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in the state. However, no positive response has been received to date, Sujata rued.

The body had also submitted various memorandums to the state government earlier, too, and received assurances of post-election action. However, no substantial step has been taken up so far, she added.

Now, the election is over and the election results were also declared recently, she said.

Sujata said that they have pressured the Privilege and Ethics Committee of the Manipur Assembly to take action against the 10 Kuki MLAs.
