28 people still reported missing; at least 1,555 people injured in Manipur Violence

Imphal: At least 1,555 people have been reported injured in Manipur violence which erupted on May 3 last year. Out of the injured persons, 98 are personnel from the state security forces and 28 are personnel from the central forces, as per official statement made by Chief Minister N Biren Singh on the assembly floor on Tuesday.

A total of 63 people were reported missing, out of which 26 individuals were found dead and 9 were found alive, and the remainder 28 people are still missing including two students who went missing on July 6 last year, even though CBI is handling the case and has arrested 5 suspects. Out of total injured persons, 334 of them sustained bullet injury and 24 sustained bomb splinters injury, added N Biren Singh.

Responding to queries raised by Opposition MLA Surjakumar Okram during the question hour on the last day of the 5th session of 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly, House leader N Biren Singh who is also in charge of the State home department said the government is making all out efforts to find the missing persons but there are challenges in accessibility to some places.

The Chief Minister asserted that the government has been taking responsibility for the treatment of injured persons and those requiring further treatment will be looked into. He also appealed to anyone who has been left out to approach the government.
