YS Mashungmi, a Tangkhul Naga youth from Teinem village, Ukhrul district, who grew up in the commercial hub of Nagaland, Dimapur is on a unique expedition.

He is walking across the state of Nagaland on a peace mission. Mashungmi’s vigorous patronage, visibly clear on his face and the two flags he carries with him radiates his message of peace, reconciliation and unity among the Naga tribes.

Mashungmi has a large Naga flag wrapped around him behind the back, and the Indian national flag hoisted high as he walks and spreads the unique message in Nagaland state.

YS Mashungmi began walking from Dimapur on December 8 and reached Kohima the next day. News sources have quoted him saying, “I decided to travel across Nagaland to spread the message of peace, brotherhood, reconciliation and unity among the Naga people,” adding that “the flags he is carrying is a symbol of his pride and Naga identity.”

His peace walk mission on the road during the cold winters in Nagaland seems challenging and a difficult one, however determined Mashungmi’s expedition will “end by finally reaching Zunheboto”, news sources quoted him say.
