UKHRUL: A 22-year-old woman from Nagaland was found dead in an apparent case of suicide on Wednesday in Chikkamagaluru, Karnataka. A diary was recovered from her room indicating alleged harassment by two individuals.

The deceased, identified as Linsula, was employed at Global Village Luxury Resort, a private enterprise.

According to police, the diary names two men, Rajesh and Tejas, who allegedly harassed the girl. The two men were reportedly pressuring her for a relationship, subjecting her to physical and mental harassment. Linsula also noted the details of the hardship she endured while working in the resort.

Police reported that Linsula had moved to Chikkamagaluru in search of livelihood—upholding family responsibilities and supporting her parents. It is suspected that the alleged harassment, along with personal issues, drove her to take the extreme step.

Why Save the Bats?

International Bat Appreciation Day is observed on April 17 to appreciate the wonderful flying mammals which we often ignore and to recognise the important role they play in our environment. Bats are vital to the health of our natural world and economy. However, today, bats worldwide face numerous threats and the destruction of their natural habitats, including caves and old trees. These ignored keystone species are facing a multitude of threats, including pesticide use, destruction of roost sites, over-harvesting for bush meat, climate change, and much more, putting them on the brink of extinction. Mining and irresponsible tourism have also caused a substantial decrease in their population, contributing to the overall decline of bat species and disrupting their ecological roles in various ecosystems.
