Senapati: Spreading awareness on “Drug Abuse” under the banner “Say No to Drugs: Building a Drug-Free District,” the Senapati District Students Association (SDSA) continues with the combat against drugs campaign at Asufii Christian Institute, Punanamei, Mao.

Dr P Wungnaongam, principal, of Asufii Christian Institute (ACI), Mao in his opening remark lauded the district apex student body for taking the initiative to better the present youth and student community. The principal asserted that such programs awareness program becomes a necessity and indispensable for all to move forward. Many youth especially students are caught entangled in drug abuse and put their future in danger. The program aims to deliberate and create awareness to ward off a victim of substance abuse. With such an initiative from the student body, the principal hopes to bring many changes to society.

Shivanand Surve, IPS, SP, Senapati district spoke on “Understanding narcotic drugs & illicit trafficking and its impact on students & youth and the legal implications,” stating the program was initiated by the SDSA on the need to educate the youth, especially the school, hr secondary and college going students who may always try to do something new.
In continuation of the program, the SP mentioned what is drug, how it affects the body who uses it and what are its types. The SP mentioned that Indian statistics show that 271 million use drugs, 35 million suffer from acute drug-related disorders and 50% of injectable drug users suffer from Hepatitis.

Mentioning steps to prevention, SP urged the gathering to fight old habits and high cravings adding to organising pre-empt discussions, seeking professional help, not being ashamed and changing one’s location and environment. Later, the SP mentioned the legal implications under the NDPS Act, how an accused would be fined and imprisoned.
