Kangpokpi: With regard to the accident at Laikot under Sapermeina police station (Kangpokpi district) where two of four family members from Tamenglong were killed when a truck hit a Bolero on November 15, 2023, a Joint Action Committee (JAC) has been formed today to fight for justice for the victims. “The JAC is formed in order to fight until justice is delivered to the victims’ family,” the committee said.

“The Joint Action Committee was formed in its emergency meeting held on November 20, 2023, at Namdilong, Imphal East district, condemning the killing of Z. Asongbou, 43 years, (father), s/o Khangsiam and Mrs. Amangliu Pamai, 44 years, w/o Z. Asongbou in a tragic accident that occurred at Laikot along National Highway-2 under Sapormeina Police Station of Kangpokpi district, Manipur wherein a Bolero bearing registration No. MN06LB-5312 was hit by an empty goods carrier truck bearing registration No AS01PC-9144 (owned by Bishwajit Dey, registered in Kamrup, Assam) due to drunk, rash and negligent driving on the part of the truck driver,” the JAC also said in a statement.

Lavner Chawang is the convenor of the JAC, Ch Paul is its secretary, Mawangbuibou Newmai is joint secretary of the JAC. Members of the committee include Masanbou, Mathiuchunbou Rimai, Timothy, Humaliabou, Rofica, Tadsongwibou, Maithindinbou, Romeo, Vicky Hugou and Lungbenwangliu.

According to the JAC, two other occupants of the Bolero – Joshibou Zuinamai, 22 years, and Pousanwibou Zuinamai, 21 years – who are sons of the deceased left with multiple injuries and are undergoing medical treatment.

“The JAC hereby unanimously resolved to work until justice is delivered to the victims’ family”, the committee asserted.
