Ukhrul: In the run-up to the 18th Lok Sabha polls, Sambit Patra, the National Spokesperson of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), announced today candidates of three Northeast states – Meghalaya, Manipur and Nagaland.
Sambit Patra taking to X (formerly Twitter) stated, “As per the instructions of the Hon’ble National President of BJP, JP Nadda, I am pleased to inform that BJP will extend its support to Lok Sabha Candidates of NPP in both the seats of Meghalaya (Shillong and Tura), to NPF in the Outer Manipur Constituency, and to NDPP in Nagaland in the ensuing Parliamentary elections 2024.”

This announcement follows closely on the heels of the Indian National Congress (INC) declaring the names of the two candidates who will contest the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in Manipur. JNU Professor Angomcha Bimol Akoijam has been nominated as the candidate for the Inner Manipur Lok Sabha Constituency, while former MLA Alfred K Arthur has been selected to contest from the Outer Manipur Lok Sabha Constituency, ending speculations.
Reacting to the decision of the central BJP party, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh expressed his support, stating, “Following the decision by JP Nadda and upholding our alliance principles, I am delighted to share that BJP will lend its support to Lok Sabha Candidates of NPF in the Outer Manipur Constituency for the forthcoming Parliamentary elections in 2024.”
According to news report, Chief Minister N Biren Singh was offered the opportunity by the central BJP party to contest the upcoming Lok Sabha polls but he declined the offer.
Meanwhile, in another development, the Naga People’s Front (NPF), a regional party, officially awarded the party ticket to K Timothy Zimik for the Outer Manipur Lok Sabha Constituency in the NPF central office in Kohima on Thursday.
Additionally, for the lone Lok Sabha seat in Nagaland state, independent candidate Hayithung Tungoe Lotha filed his nomination paper for the 18th Lok Sabha election today at the Commissioner Nagaland & Returning Officer’s office in Kohima on Friday.
