Advocate Peter Challam contests as independent candidate for Lok Sabha elections

Shillong: Advocate Peter Challam today announced his decision to contest as an independent candidate for the Shillong parliamentary seat in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Addressing a news conference here, Challam, who is a resident of Laikor, said he had taken the decision to join the fray in order to take up the various issues confronting the state.

He said the demand for implementation of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) and inclusion of the Khasi language in the Eighth Schedule to the Constitution of India besides inter-state border disputes are some of the issues which are still pending for the past many years. Apart from these, issues concerning health, education, unemployment, connectivity, safety and security of every citizen of the state will also be highlighted during the campaign, Challam said.

The advocate said that he is not against sitting Congress MP and candidates of other political parties because he is concerned only about the welfare of the state and its people.

He also appealed to voters of the Shillong parliamentary constituency to vote for a candidate who would take up issues affecting the people and the state.
